Phonics at Home Guidance: Year One
Dear Parents and Carers
We use systematic synthetic phonics as our approach to word reading at school. Phonics is the sounds letters make. Phonics is an essential skill that will enable your child to read.
Please find below links to Youtube videos that will reinforce sounds taught at school so far (highlighted in yellow) and sounds that your child has not yet been taught (highlighted in blue) as well as daily revision videos (highlighted in pink). Simply copy the episode title into Youtube or click on the link and enjoy!
We would recommend spending 30 minutes per day watching these videos if possible, starting with a revision video (pink), then watching the sounds that your child has already been taught (yellow) and sounds not yet taught (blue).
Each week for Year 1 children watch each Youtube revision video highlighted in pink at least twice as revision (the episode titles are the words beside the bullet points):
