Hello and welcome to Year Six!
Our whole Year Six team is here to support your child’s learning and development and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child and yourselves to Year Six.
The Year Six team are:
- Greg Rampersad
- Koli Begum
- Khairun Nessa
There will be lots of exciting learning taking place this year, in all areas of the curriculum.
Some of the things your child will be learning in English is many different reading strategies while exploring the exciting novel The London Eye Mystery.
In maths they will be learning place value (i.e. reading, writing and comparing numbers up to ten million.) Following this, they will secure their knowledge of the four operations (multiplication, division, addition and subtraction.)
They will also be finding about the Amazon in Geography and exploring differences and similarities between different religions in R.E.
At the end of half term, the class will be going to Stubbers. (October 16th to 18th)
Reading is very important. Your child will have regular reading sessions in class, but they would also benefit greatly from further reading at home too. Each child should visit the library so they can pick out a book they truly engage with and enjoy. A reading book should be bought with your child every day, and they are welcome to either take this home or leave it in school. Your child be given a reading diary or journal. Please make sure that you read with your child every day and sign their reading diary.
Homework will be given out at least fortnightly, but reading a book at home should be happening every day.
Please make sure that your child brings in a full PE kit for every session. Year Six will have PE on Wednesday and Thursday.
For PE, each child should wear shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms and their ‘House Colours’ T-shirt. They will also need trainers for PE.
Children should wear school uniform every day.
The school colours are navy blue, to be worn with grey, black or white.
A white shirt or white, red or blue polo shirt
A blue jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt
Navy blue, black or grey trousers or skirt.
Children are encouraged to wear a jumper or cardigan with the school logo on it but can also wear plain navy blue jumpers, cardigans or fleeces. School jumpers, cardigans and fleeces with the school logo can be purchased from Khalsa Schoolwear on Bethnal Green Road.
In the summer term, blue and white striped or checked dresses, or blue shorts are also suitable.
Please remember …
- to tell the office or your child’s teacher if someone other than yourself will be collecting your child at the end of the day.
- to write your child’s name in their coat, uniform and PE kit
If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to speak to any member of the Year Six team at the start or end of the school day.
Thank you for all your support
