Governor's Biographies

Alfie Afsar Ali is a Parent Governor.  He has been a Governor since February 2016. Alfie is a member of the Operations Committee. Alfie is a Health and Safety link Governor.  Alfie works for the Parks Service and has extensive experience of working with a range of community organisations.

Brian Brown is Chair of the Governing Body.  He has been a Governor with Mowlem since November 2005 and was Chair from 2007 to 2016 and again since 2020. Brian has worked in the financial services industry for over 20 years and has held various roles in New York and London.
Prior to becoming a Mowlem Governor, Brian spent 15 years volunteering as a tutor/education mentor with the East Harlem Tutorial Program, a private non-profit educational enrichment centre for primary and secondary school pupils living in New York’s Harlem community.

Alyssa Brathwaite is a co-opted Governor. She has been a Governors with Mowlem since March 2016. Alyssa is the Chair of the School Improvement Committee. Alyssa is the link Governor for Arts, Safeguarding, Child Protection, Behaviour & Safety. Alyssa is a Lawyer from a City based firm. As a member of a school's governing body, she aims to utilise her skills acquired both inside and outside of work in order to help a school to progress and reach its desired goals for the ultimate benefit of its pupils.

Emma Moon is an Associate Governor. She has been a Governor with Mowlem since March 2020. She is a member of the School Improvement Committee member.  Emma is Assistant Head at Mowlem. 

Greg Rampersad is a staff Governor. He has been a Governor with Mowlem since March 2020. In addition he is a member of the School Improvement Committee. He has been working at Mowlem as a class teacher since 2016. 

Julia Burns is the Headteacher Governor.  Julia is a member of the Operations Committee and the School Improvement Committee. Julia joined Mowlem in 1996 and has been the Headteacher since 2000.

Ian Jones is an Associate Governor. Ian has been a Governor at Mowlem since December 2016. Ian is a member of the School Improvement Committee and link Governor for curriculum and EYFS. 

Peter Owens is a co-opted Governor.  He has been a Governor with Mowlem since October 2017 with his current term running to 16th October 2021. In addition, he is a member of the Operations Committee, and is a Link governor for Curriculum. Peter has a background in music education, and in editing and general management with major Classical music publishers.

Hasina Rahman is a Parent Governor.  She has been a Governor with Mowlem since May 2014 with her current term running to 14th May 2019. In addition, she is a member of the Operations Committee, and is a link governor for Pupil and Parent Voice, Key Stage 2 and Pupil Premium.  

Di Roome is a Local Authority Governor.  She has been a Governor with Mowlem since 2011.  In addition, she is a member of the School Improvement and Operations Committees. Di is a link Governor for Safeguarding, Child Protection, Behaviour & Safety. Literacy, Pupil Premium, Key Stage 2, Behaviour and Safety and SEN and the designated Safeguarding governor. Before joining the Mowlem Governing Body, Di was, for twenty years, a Primary Headteacher in Hackney.

Sue Thomas is a co-opted Governor and the Co-Vice-Chair of Governors. Sue has been a Governor with Mowlem since October 2015. Sue is a member of the School Improvement Committee and link Governor for Key Stage 1 and Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and Inclusion. She worked in Education in Hackney for many years.

Burhan Uddin Ahmed is a Parent Governor. He was elected in July 2017. He has two children at the school. Burhan is a member of the Operations Committee and link Governor for Health and Safety.
